WALDORF, Md. – The Charles County Economic Development Department held its 2019 Fall Meeting on Nov. 5, 2019, at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center. The meeting theme was “The Future in Focus.”
“The 2019 Fall Meeting was a resounding success,” said Economic Development Director Darréll Brown. “We had great attendance, and many positive comments about the program content; people told us it was relevant and informative.”
Keynote speaker Anirban Basu, chairman, and CEO of Sage Policy Group brought his expertise in the economy and economic indicators, using his signature wit and humor to simplify and condense complex data into a timely and useful presentation.
Joining Mr. Basu as a conference speaker was Jay Garner, president of Garner Economics. Mr. Garner developed Charles County’s five-year strategic plan and presented it to the Charles County community in 2016. This year, he reviewed the county’s progress, giving it a high score, discussed how the market has changed, and informed attendees of the steps Charles County can take to adjust to the changing market.
“The Future of Work” panel discussion included Ellen Flowers-Fields, Interim Vice President for Continuing Education and Workforce Development at the College of Southern Maryland, Michael Kelleher, Executive Director of the Maryland Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and Robert Kavetsky, President and Executive Director of Energetics Technology Center. The panel was moderated by Anne Balduzzi, Director of Advisory Services at TEDCO. The panelists discussed emerging trends that are transforming the workplace, including automation, artificial intelligence, and other upcoming technological developments.
The Fall Meeting is an annual event focused on providing educational and networking opportunities for local businesses as well as to update stakeholders on economic development activity in Charles County.
