Leonardtown, MD- On May 4, 2019, St. Mary’s County police responded to a home in Charlotte Hall, MD for shots fired.

Police say nice people were inside the Mt. Wolf Road residence when they heard the sound of gunshots outside. St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Corporal Austin Shultz says in the charging documents, “Multiple holes caused by bullets were located in the roof of the residence, one in the siding of the residence and one in [a] window of the residence. Projectiles were also in various locations on the residence. No injuries were reported during the incident.

After a several week investigation, Cpl. Shultz filed charging papers against Joseph Matthew Lockard, 21, of Waldorf, MD. Lockart was charged with:

  • (8)First-Degree Assualt
  • (8)Second-Degree Assualt
  • (10)Reckless Endangerment
  • Handgun on person
  • Loaded Handgun on person

On November 25, 2019, Lockard was sentenced to an active sentence of eight years in prison, the top of the sentencing guidelines for his involvement in a felony assault involving a firearm.

The Defendant will have an additional seven years of backup time while being placed on five years of supervised probation with the department of parole and probation after serving out his active jail term.
