News Release, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs

Waldorf, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced their re-signing of manager Stan Cliburn for the 2020 season on Wednesday afternoon. Cliburn will return in 2020 for his second straight season in Southern Maryland, and his third overall.

The MLB veteran has been dominating the game of baseball for nearly 50 years and has been surrounded by great baseball minds throughout his career. From playing with Joe Maddon in the minor leagues to winning Eastern League Manager of the Year honors in Double-A to picking up his 1,700th career managerial win in 2019, success and baseball excellence have followed Stan from day one.

The skipper is a compelling character with a knack for creating clubhouse chemistry and 2019 is a perfect example of that. While the team got off to a disappointing start, Cliburn rallied the troops for a fantastic finish to the season, compiling a top three record in the league from early June through mid-August. With a clean slate for 2020 and a fantastic foundation to work from, Cliburn’s return has the makings of creating a serious contender in Southern Maryland.

“I am very excited to be coming back for the 2020 season and to continue the momentum we had during the second-half playoff push. Between hosting the All-Star Game and bringing back the nucleus of our key players, 2020 will be a special season”, Cliburn said.
