News Release, Anne Arundel County Community College

Local chef Allison Toursani Igwe will appear on Food Network’s Chopped Sweets at 10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24. Torsani Igwe, of Vin 909 in Annapolis and a graduate of Anne Arundel Community College’s Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute, filmed the show in October after a casting director reached out requesting for her to audition.

“I have been watching Chopped for easily a decade, and always dreamt about being a good enough cook or baker to make it onto the show,” she said. “This was a personal goal of mine for several years.”

The Bowie native and current Crofton resident worked at Ashling Kitchen & Bar in Crofton during filming. Food is her second career. She also holds a degree from Towson University and has been a copyeditor in Miami, FL, and Frederick, MD. After being laid off a few years ago, she decided she was done sitting at a computer.

“It was time to start my culinary journey — and it has been a wild ride ever since,” she said. “The culinary world has taken me so many places in a very short time. This is only the beginning.”
