Charles County Government, in partnership with the Department of Health, is proud to announce that all county-owned buildings currently equipped with Automated External Defibrillator (AED) units now have Stop the Bleed and Opioid Overdose Kits.
Stop the Bleed Kits provide emergency personnel and residents with proper bleeding control tools for use in serious trauma emergencies. Opioid Overdose Kits include Narcan and other items needed to assist an individual experiencing an opioid overdose. Charles County is partnering with the Maryland Coalition of Families and local advocacy groups to provide a list of local resource numbers inside the Opioid Overdose Kits, to further assist the individuals after the overdose occurs.
The Stop the Bleed and Opioid Overdose Kits are located inside AED cabinets, ready for use. There are 54 AED units in government buildings, community centers, local parks, and the Jude House (9505 Crain Hwy, Bel Alton).
Residents are reminded to call 9-1-1 if they are experiencing an emergency situation. Each Stop the Bleed and Opioid Overdose Kit has step-by-step instructions. Residents are encouraged to take available training or learn more about lifesaving efforts before an emergency arises. The Department of Health offers Narcan training on Monday evenings.
