PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR STATION, MD – Communities surrounding the Webster Outlying Field are advised that low-altitude nighttime testing helicopter testing events are scheduled to take place June 9 to June 12, 2020, from 5 p.m.– 10 p.m.
As with all operations, NAS Patuxent River takes precautions to lessen the impact of testing activities on the community. For more information call the Pax River toll-free Noise Hotline at 1-866-819-9028.
Located 12 miles southwest of the Naval Air Station Patuxent River complex, the Webster Outlying Field annex is home to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) 4.11 and NAWCAD 5.1.11, Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes and a component of the Maryland Army National Guard.
The airport was located on a Jesuit property owned since 1634. During World War II, the U.S. Navy purchased the land for $96,000 from the priesthood in 1943, paying them one year later. All building were demolished with the exception of the Jesuit fathers’ residence on Priest’s Point, and a tobacco barn near Fort Point. Three runways were originally constructed. The Naval Air Navigation Electronics Project moved to the field in 1960.
