UPDATE 2:17 p.m.: The start of the school year will be virtual but the exact plan has not been disclosed at this time and is still a work in progress. More information from the State will be provided at a July 22, 2020 5 p.m press conference with Governor Larry Hogan and State Education Superintendent Dr. Karen Salmon.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle will continue to monitor the SMCPS’s plan for the 2020/21 school year and bring more information WHEN it is released. But as Dr. Smith said in the Board of Education meeting now is the time for parents to begin planning for a virtual start.

Leonardtown, MD- At the St. Mary’s County Public Schools(SMCPS) Board of Education meeting this morning, Superintendent Dr. J. Scott Smith states in his comments when discussing how to handle hard copies for students that cannot get internet access,” we are going to start with everyone going virtually.”

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is working to bring more information on SMCPS and Charles/Calvert’s complete plans for the 2020/21 Schools Year.
