Historic St. Mary’s City (HMSC) still has openings for 2020 outdoor summer day camps.
Originally scheduled for June, the Pick Your Own Adventure summer day camp will now be held in August. Each day is to be registered for separately, with the registration cost being $30 per program. Following the guidance of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s Roadwork to Recovery program, the programs will be limited to ten campers or less.
August 11: Lifeways of Maryland’s First People (ages 6-9) 9 a.m.—3 p.m. Lifeways will offer a full day of exploring the great outdoors at the Woodland Indian Hamlet. Through demonstrations and discussions, campers will learn about Maryland’s Yaocomoaco people and learn the importance of the natural environment.
August 13: Homespun (ages 8-12) 9 a.m.—3 p.m.
For campers who enjoy sewing and fashion design! Explore the world of natural fibers and learn the 17th-century methods of working with textiles. Homespun will give each camper their own pre-packaged kit with for use during the day camp. Limited to five campers.
August 14: Colonial kids (ages 6-10) 9 a.m.—3 p.m.
Colonial Kids challenges students’ imagination to journey back in time to experience life of the 1600s. Designed for children who love history, this will give attendees the opportunity to explore all four outdoor living history areas and participate in age-appropriate activities that are educational and fun.
Also on the schedule for summer 2020 are Earning the Badge day camps, designed for Girl and Boy scouts. Each day camp will be limited to 10 campers.
In an archery program, HSMC will provide scouts with a thorough and hands-on understanding of archery fundamentals. Scouts will learn about safety on the archery range and archery equipment. Scouts will also learn about proper form when shooting a bow, led by a certified archery instructor. Both the Girl and Boy scout archery camps will cost $15 per scout.
August 20: Girl Scout Cadet Archery, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
August 20: Boy Scout Archery, 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
Historic St. Mary’s City will also be offering a Girl Scout Maryland Heritage day program on August 21, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m for only $10. Registration is limited to 10 campers.
