Washington, DC– The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s basketball team (7-8) fell in a mid-week United East Conference matchup against Gallaudet (8-7) this evening (Jan. 25) This was the Seahawks’ eighth conference game of the 2021-22. The final score was 63-55, dropping the Seahawks’ United East record to 5-3.

How It Happened

  • The Seahawks found themselves down 18-16 after a back and forth first quarter of play. St. Mary’s came out of the gate fast, going on 9-0 run early in the contest thanks to a strong start offensively from Cassidy Kupchinskas and Karon Williams. Gallaudet was able to respond, closing out the quarter on 6-0 run of their own.
  • The second quarter of action was played at a much slower pace, as both teams only managed to score nine points respectively in the period. Cassidy Kupchinskas and Karon Williams both netted eight points in the first half, while the Seahawks managed to shoot just over 30% from the field. Williams led the charge defensively, leading St. Mary’s College with two steals going into the halftime break.
  • Neither team could pull away from the other going into the second half of play, as the largest lead from either side in the third quarter was just four. Cameron Mangold and Stephanie Howell paced the Seahawks offensively and defensively in the period. Howell went off for seven points, two rebounds, while also picking up a block and a steal. Mangold chipped in seven points and dished out a couple of assists. The Seahawks found themselves up two going into the fourth quarter
  •  The Seahawks were unable to hold off the Bison in the final period of play. Gallaudet was able to outscore St. Mary’s 21-11 in the fourth quarter and leave the game winning by eight, 63-55. Cassidy Kupshinskas continued her nice stretch for the Seahawks with a team high 16 points in the contest
