LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Department of Public Works & Transportation is requesting federal and state operating and capital grants to fund St. Mary’s Transit System (STS), the locally operated public transit system.

Grant requests include $3,228,210 in Federal/State operating funding for the 2023 fiscal year. These grants include allocations to fund capital projects ($443,155), the Statewide Specialized Transportation Assistance Program (SSTAP) ($190,003) as enacted by the Maryland General Assembly, ADA ($203,084), Sunday bus services ($104,287), and Public transit program ($2,287,781) Section 5311 of the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 and Section 5307 Urban program. The grants will require local match funds from the Department of Social Services and St. Mary’s County Government.

Upon request, County staff will schedule a public hearing regarding this matter. Requests for a public hearing must be submitted in writing no later than Feb. 11, 2022, at 4:30 p.m. to:
