LATHAM, N.Y. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team swept the first United East Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week awards of the season as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Senior Jack Brocato (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul’s School for Boys) was voted the United East Offensive Player of the Week while senior captain Kyrle Preis (Upper Falls, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was named the United East Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending February 20.
The Seahawks opened the 2022 campaign with a pair of wins over Guilford College, 15-5, on February 13 and Elizabethtown College, 9-8, this past Saturday.
Brocato began his senior campaign with his fourth career hat trick, scoring three goals and an assist in the win over Guilford, before netting the game-tying goal at Elizabethtown for a 4-4 halftime score. The 6-0 attackman/midfielder is currently tied for second in the league with four goals and five points.
Preis collected 18 saves over the two victories, including a season-best 11 stops in the come-from-behind road win over Elizabethtown. The 5-10 goalie currently leads the United East with 6.35 goals-against average and a .643 save percentage.
St. Mary’s College (2-0) will be back in action on Saturday, February 26, when the Seahawks host McDaniel College for their home-opener at 1:00 p.m. in the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
