(MECHANICSVILLE, MD) — A fatal collision between a motorcycle and a delivery van in St. Mary’s County is under investigation by the Maryland State Police, following an incident that resulted in the death of a local man on Saturday afternoon.

The victim, identified as 63-year-old Thomas Christiani of Mechanicsville, Maryland, was the sole occupant and rider of a Honda motorcycle involved in the tragic accident. Officials pronounced him deceased at the scene. Fortunately, there were no other injuries reported from the crash.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, when Maryland State Police troopers from the Leonardtown Barrack were called to the intersection of Mechanicsville Road and Asher Road. The preliminary findings suggest that Christiani’s motorcycle was heading south on Mechanicsville Road. In a distressing turn of events, the motorcycle collided with a delivery van that was attempting to turn into a residential driveway.
