CHARLES COUNTY, MD — A student at Henry E. Lackey High School was found in possession of a knife on Monday, school officials reported. At approximately 10 a.m., a school administrator, having been alerted to the situation, discovered the knife inside the student’s bookbag. The school resource officer was promptly notified and took charge of the situation. Authorities assured the public that the student made no threats, but the incident has led to an ongoing investigation. In a separate incident at North Point High School, the day saw three distinct altercations among students. The first two involved pairs of students engaging in physical fights, which resulted in minor injuries. Additionally, La Plata High School reported a drug-related incident on Wednesday. A school administrator detected the smell of cannabis coming from a bathroom around 11 a.m., leading to the discovery of a student in possession of the substance. The school’s resource officer intervened, recovering the suspected cannabis and issuing a civil citation to the student.
