ARNOLD, Md. – In a significant move aimed at bolstering student-athlete success, Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) has appointed Alli Szymanski as the new Student-Athlete Success Coordinator. Announced by Athletics Director Duane Herr, Szymanski’s role will encompass a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including academic support, retention, eligibility, and life skills development for AACC’s Riverhawks.
Szymanski was enthusiastic about her new position, stating, “I am grateful for the opportunity to support the student-athletes of Anne Arundel Community College in their academic and athletic endeavors.” She extended her gratitude towards Herr and the search committee for their efforts throughout the hiring process, emphasizing her eagerness to contribute to the AACC community.

Her previous tenure at St. Mary’s College of Maryland as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and Assistant Field Hockey Coach has been marked by significant achievements, including a notable improvement in the academic performance of student-athletes. Under her guidance, the field hockey team saw 16 players make the 2023 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad. Additionally, Szymanski played a crucial role in team operations, communications, development, and alumni relations.
The appointment comes on the heels of a landmark year for St. Mary’s College field hockey team, which secured its first Atlantic East Conference tournament championship and made its inaugural appearance in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament, finishing with a commendable 13-6 record.
Herr praised Szymanski’s diverse background, highlighting her experience as a student-athlete, educator, coach, and athletic administrator. “She is a demonstrated mentor and advocate that I’m excited to have working with Riverhawks student-athletes,” Herr remarked, underscoring her potential to drive the student-athlete success program forward.
Before joining St. Mary’s College, Szymanski dedicated four years to teaching English language arts at Easton High School in Easton, Md., where she also led the varsity field hockey team to the 2021 2A East Region II Championship title. Her academic and athletic journey includes serving as a team captain and starter for the St. Mary’s field hockey program, earning recognition on the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad in 2015, and receiving two Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors.
Szymanski’s educational credentials include a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in teaching from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, equipping her with a solid foundation to support AACC’s student-athletes both on and off the field.
With this new appointment, Anne Arundel Community College aims to enhance the holistic development of its student-athletes, ensuring their success extends beyond the sporting arena into their academic pursuits and life beyond college.
