The season commenced on February 10th with a doubleheader at home against Delaware Technical Community College, where the Hawks demonstrated their potential by splitting the games. Despite taking an initial lead in the first game, CSM ultimately fell to Del Tech with a final score of 10-4 after the opposition mounted a significant comeback. However, the Hawks bounced back in the second game, securing their first-season victory with a close 10-9 win. This game saw CSM taking an early lead and fending off a late surge from Del Tech, thanks partly to closer Yunior Pena, who clinched his first save of the season.
The following weekend, the Hawks faced a tough series against the Rowan College South Jersey Gloucester Roadrunners, enduring a sweep across three games from February 17th to 18th. The first game ended in a 10-0 shutout against CSM, with the team struggling to generate offense. The subsequent games continued challenging the Hawks, with final scores of 8-1 and 8-3, respectively. Despite the losses, players like Tyree Claxton and pitchers Chase Bart and Davey Reynolds showed promising performances, indicating the team’s potential for improvement.
