LATHAM, N.Y. – In a significant nod to their exceptional performances on the court, St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s guards, Daryn Alexander and Micah Henry, have clinched spots on the 2023-24 Men’s Basketball All-United East Conference Volt Division Teams. The conference office announced this prestigious recognition on Wednesday morning, underscoring the athletes’ key contributions to their team’s competitive edge this season.
Daryn Alexander, hailing from Twinbrook, Md., and a product of Richard Montgomery, achieved a personal milestone by being named to the All-United East First Team for the first time, following two consecutive seasons of making the Second Team. His teammate, Micah Henry, from Laurel, Md., and a Hammond alumnus, also marked a career highlight by securing his first postseason award with a nomination to the Second Team.

Alexander’s tenure with the Seahawks has been nothing short of remarkable, concluding his collegiate career as a three-time all-conference selection and surpassing the 1,000-point mark. The achievement came during a pivotal game on February 19, when St. Mary’s College triumphed over Lancaster Bible College in the Volt Division Championship Tournament semifinals. The 6-2 guard has demonstrated exceptional skill throughout the season, tying for fifth in the United East in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7) and ranking sixth with an average of 1.9 steals per game.
With a season filled with highlights, Alexander stood out not only for his scoring prowess, with an average of 15.4 points per game but also for his leadership as a team captain. His performance included a season-high 31 points in a game against Penn State Berks on January 10 and a total of eight 20-point games, alongside recording two double-doubles.
Over 72 games, Alexander’s statistics paint the picture of a versatile and dependable player. He accumulated 1,017 points, 358 rebounds, 216 assists, 116 steals, and 39 blocks, showcasing his all-around contributions to the Seahawks’ successes.
Micah Henry, in his sophomore year, emerged as the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 13.9 points per game. His .460 field goal percentage placed him 12th in the league, further testament to his significant impact on the court. Henry’s offensive skills were on full display in games throughout the season, including a standout performance against Penn State Harrisburg on February 17, where he scored a season-high 24 points.
St. Mary’s College’s basketball team, buoyed by the achievements of Alexander and Henry, concluded the season with a commendable 16-12 record, including a 9-3 mark in United East Conference (UEC) play. This record secured them the No. 3 seed in the United East Volt Division Championship Tournament, propelling them into their first championship game appearance since the 2012-13 season, and marking their second winning season in the last three years.
The accomplishments of Alexander and Henry not only highlight their individual talents but also underscore the collaborative spirit and competitive resilience of the St. Mary’s College men’s basketball team. As they move forward, the legacy of their achievements will undoubtedly inspire future generations of Seahawks athletes.
