LATHAM, N.Y. – In a recent announcement from the United East Conference, St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s women’s outdoor track and field team has achieved significant recognition. The team’s standout performances at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational have led to two of its athletes receiving prestigious weekly awards from the conference.

Senior captain Brittney Douglas of Port Republic, Maryland, was named the Track Athlete of the Week. Douglas played a crucial role in the team’s success, participating in the 4x800m relay team that secured third place and set a new school record with a time of 10:10.96. Her achievements didn’t stop there; Douglas also ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic region for the 800m run with a time of 2:27.04 and was part of the 4x400m relay team that finished in 11th place, setting another school record at 4:18.02.

First-year athlete Jillian Zukley, hailing from Severna Park, Maryland, was awarded the Field Athlete of the Week. Zukley’s exceptional performance in the shot put not only earned her a sixth-place finish but also set a school record and personal best with a throw of 12.27m. This throw has placed her second in the Mid-Atlantic, fourth in the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC), and 14th in Division III. In addition to her shot put success, Zukley achieved a personal best in the hammer throw, ranking fifth in the region and seventh in the AARTFC.

The Seahawks’ next competition is the Purple and Gold Invitational, hosted by West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania, on March 23. This event will provide another opportunity for the team to showcase its talent and dedication.
