GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior swimmer Luke Schwenk from Broadneck, Maryland, made a significant splash at the NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday, securing his third career All-America award. Schwenk, representing his college team as a 6-foot-2 captain, showcased his speed and skill in the 50 freestyle event, setting both a school and an Atlantic East Conference record.

Kicking off the competition with the morning preliminaries, Schwenk delivered a strong performance, finishing second in his heat and tying for fifth place out of 47 competitors with a remarkable time of 20.23 seconds. This impressive showing in the preliminaries earned him a coveted spot in the championship final later that evening.

In the finals, Schwenk excelled, finishing fifth and breaking records with a time of 19.83 seconds. This achievement not only earned him First Team All-America honors but also marked a significant milestone in his swimming career, surpassing his previous season’s 14th-place finish in the same event for a Second Team All-America accolade.

Schwenk’s journey to the championships was fueled by his outstanding seed time of 19.86 seconds in the 50 freestyle, the fourth-fastest entering the competition and an NCAA B cut. His accomplishments at the championships reflect his dedication and hard work, further establishing him as a formidable competitor in collegiate swimming.

Looking ahead, Schwenk is set to return to the pool on Friday to compete in the 100 backstroke, where he holds the 11th fastest seed time of 44.26 seconds, another NCAA B standard. His performances at the NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships are a testament to his skill and commitment to the sport.
