ARLINGTON, Va. — In a striking display of skill and teamwork, St. Mary’s College men’s lacrosse team secured a commanding 22-9 victory over Marymount University on Wednesday night, marking their second consecutive win of the season. With standout performances from junior midfielder Nate Hochrein and first-year Declan Horton, the Seahawks demonstrated their prowess on the field in this non-conference clash.

The game began with Hochrein, hailing from Towson, Maryland, leading the charge with two first-quarter goals, setting the tone for the match. St. Mary’s College quickly established a 5-2 lead in the initial 15 minutes, demonstrating their offensive strength early on. The Seahawks continued their offensive onslaught in the second quarter, outscoring Marymount 5-3, thanks to contributions from junior midfielder Jake Levey, doubling their lead by halftime at 10-5.

The third quarter saw St. Mary’s College effectively seal their victory, launching six unanswered goals to widen the gap to 16-5, leaving their opponents struggling to catch up. Despite a brief rally by Marymount, led by Jack Williams with two goals and an assist, the Seahawks maintained control, closing the game at 22-9.

Analyzing the stats, St. Mary’s College outshot Marymount 48-34 and narrowly led in ground balls 28-26. However, Marymount saw a slight advantage in face-offs, winning 17 out of 33. Both teams failed to capitalize on extra-man opportunities, going 0-for-3.

Noteworthy performances from the Seahawks included Horton’s career-best five goals, marking his second consecutive hat trick, and Hochrein’s personal bests of four goals and five points. Sophomore Joshua Martel and Levey also made significant contributions, with Martel scoring four goals and Levey adding two goals, four points, and a season-high two assists. Additionally, sophomore Matteo Ciccarello and first-year Ty Grove set personal records in face-offs won and saves, respectively.

On the opposing side, Bryan Maguire led Marymount with four goals, supported by Ian Fructuoso’s goal and three assists.

Looking ahead, St. Mary’s College is set to face Messiah College on March 23rd at JLR Stadium in St. Mary’s City, Maryland, during High School Night, offering an opportunity to continue their winning streak.
