In a tragic incident late Monday evening, a serious motor vehicle collision on Maryland Route 228 resulted in the death of one individual and left another in serious condition. Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack was alerted to the accident at the intersection of Maryland Route 228 (Berry Road) and Sharpersville Road around 11:03 PM, April 1, 2024.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a devastating scene where a Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 42-year-old Melody Williams Robinson of Waldorf, MD, had collided head-on with a Ford F-150. The preliminary investigation by troopers and a Collision Reconstruction Specialist (CRS), TFC. M. Posch of the MSP Leonardtown Barrack, who was specifically brought in for the investigation, reveals that the Malibu was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 228 near Sharpersville Road at the time of the collision.

The Malibu, operating in the opposite direction of traffic, struck the Ford, which was driven by 47-year-old David Ross of Swan Point, MD. Despite immediate CPR efforts, Ms. Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Ross sustained serious injuries from the impact and was urgently transported to MEDSTAR/Washington Hospital Center, where he is reported to be in serious condition.

Investigations into the crash point towards alcohol impairment and driver error as contributing factors. Maryland State Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and have appealed to the public for any witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information regarding the crash is urged to contact the Duty Officer at the MSP La Plata Barrack at (301) 392-1200, referencing investigation number 24-MSP-010374.
