Budds Creek, MD – In a stunning display of racing prowess, Virginia’s own Billy Hubbard clinched a commanding victory at Potomac Speedway’s season-opening Crate Late Model event last Friday. Steering his Rocket no.38 with unmatched skill, Hubbard led the race from flag to flag, marking his second consecutive victory on opening day and earning his first career feature win at the track.

Starting from the pole position thanks to the re-draw, Hubbard quickly took control of the race, leading all 20 laps to secure his victory over runner-up Chuck Bowie. This win was a culmination of dedication and effort, as Hubbard reflected on his 25 years of racing at Potomac Speedway. “We’ve been coming down here for 25 years, and finally tonight was our night,” Hubbard said, attributing his flawless performance to his car, sponsors, and family support.

The night was filled with thrilling races across various categories, with Mikey Latham celebrating a significant milestone in the hobby stock feature. Surviving a late race caution, Latham took his 27th career division win, which also marked the 100th overall victory for him and his father, Mike Latham. “Every win is special, but this is a big one,” an elated Mikey shared, emphasizing the special nature of sharing this achievement with his family.

In the street stock feature, defending track champion Wyatt Hanson emerged victorious, while Faith Lacey secured her second career win in the 15-lap U Car main. The strictly stock feature saw Nabil Guffey outmaneuver the competition to take top honors.

The evening not only showcased the high-octane excitement of grassroots racing but also highlighted the deep sense of community and family ties within the sport. From Hubbard’s long-awaited victory to Latham’s milestone win, the event underscored the passion and dedication that drivers and their teams bring to the track each race day.

Potomac Speedway’s season opener set a high bar for the racing season, promising more thrilling action and heartwarming stories in the races to come.
