In a tragic turn of events, a severe car accident on Maryland Route 228 near Sharpersville Road led to the death of two individuals last week. David Ross, 47, from Swan Point, Maryland, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at MEDSTAR/Washington Hospital Center, following the collision that occurred on Monday, April 1, 2024. The other victim, Melody Williams Robinson, 42, of Waldorf, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

According to the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack, the incident took place at approximately 23:03 hours when officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious motor vehicle accident. Troopers, along with a Collision Reconstruction Specialist (CRS) from the MSP Leonardtown Barrack, were mobilized to investigate the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate that Melody Williams Robinson was driving a Chevrolet Malibu eastbound in the westbound lanes of Maryland Route 228 at the time of the accident. Concurrently, David Ross was navigating a Ford F-150 westbound on the same route. The vehicles collided head-on in the second lane of the westbound direction.

Emergency responders performed CPR on Robinson; however, she did not survive the impact and was declared deceased at the location of the crash. Ross was immediately transported to MEDSTAR/Washington Hospital Center in serious condition, where he fought for his life until his passing.

The investigation suggests that alcohol impairment and driver error were significant factors contributing to the fatal accident. Maryland State Police are actively continuing their investigation and have issued a call for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information regarding this crash is encouraged to contact the Duty Officer at the MSP La Plata Barrack at (301) 392-1200, referencing the investigation number 24-MSP-010374.
