In a heart-wrenching incident early Saturday morning, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on Maryland Route 5, Hughesville. Maryland State Police troopers and a Collision Reconstruction Specialist (CRS) responded to the scene near Wolfe Drive following the report of the serious accident.

According to preliminary findings by the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack and the CRS, the accident occurred when a Toyota Camry, driven by 45-year-old Renee Hull of Lexington Park, MD, was traveling southbound. At the same time, 28-year-old Enoch F. Rogers of Clinton, MD, was walking northbound in the southbound lanes directly into the path of the oncoming vehicle.

Tragically, Rogers sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation suggests pedestrian error as the primary cause of the accident. TFC. J. Engleman from the MSP Leonardtown Barrack is leading the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the Duty Officer at the MSP La Plata Barrack at (301) 392-1200 to aid in the investigation.

The Maryland State Police continue to investigate the fatal collision and will release further details as they become available.
