HARTFORD, Conn. – In a game marked by intermittent rain, the Hartford Yard Goats secured a 7-4 victory over the Bowie Baysox on Sunday at Dunkin’ Park. The win wrapped up a successful series for Hartford, with the team taking four of the six games against their Double-A Eastern League counterparts.

From the outset, Hartford set the tone with a pair of solo home runs in the second and third innings off Bowie’s starting pitcher, Trace Bright. Despite Bright’s eight strikeouts over five innings, he was charged with three runs, putting his team in an early deficit.

The Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, initially held a brief lead with an RBI single from Anthony Servideo in the second inning. However, Hartford quickly responded and steadily built their advantage, culminating in a four-run seventh inning led by a barrage of five hits. The Yard Goats’ dominant hitting performance totaled 15 hits throughout the game.

Conversely, Bowie struggled offensively, managing only one run against Hartford’s starting pitcher Jarrod Cande in his five innings on the mound. The Baysox attempted a late-game rally spearheaded by TT Bowens, who smashed a three-run homer in the eighth, bringing the score to 7-4. Bowens, a Connecticut native, ended the series with a robust .389 batting average, including four extra-base hits and nine RBIs.

Despite their late efforts, including placing two runners on base in the ninth with no outs, Bowie’s comeback was stifled by a double play and a flyout, ending the game without further score changes.

After a demanding series, the Baysox will enjoy a rest day before returning to action at home against the Altoona Curve on Tuesday. Bowie fans can look forward to the upcoming homestand at Prince George’s Stadium, with various ticket options available for the 2024 season.
