BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Bowie Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, were defeated 2-0 by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Tuesday night at Mirabito Stadium.

The Baysox (17-16) struggled offensively, managing only six hits throughout the game. Outfielder Dylan Beavers accounted for half of those hits, including two doubles. Beavers’ sixth-inning leadoff double represented Bowie’s best scoring opportunity, but he was left stranded at third base after two groundouts.

Binghamton (19-13) saw a strong performance from Mets rehabbing left-hander David Peterson, who earned the win, improving his record to 1-0. Peterson pitched five and a third innings, scattering five of Bowie’s six hits and striking out eight. Joander Suarez, a right-hander, closed out the game for Binghamton, allowing just one hit over three and two-thirds innings to earn the save.

Ryan Long, Bowie’s right-handed starter, took the loss, falling to 0-3 on the season despite a solid outing. Long allowed only one hit and struck out five over four innings. His sole mistake came in the third inning when a two-out walk scored from first on Rhylan Thomas’s opposite-field double. Right-hander Cameron Weston pitched three innings in relief, giving up one run on a solo home run in the seventh inning.

This defeat marks the sixth time this season the Baysox have been shut out. The Baysox will continue their six-game series against the Rumble Ponies on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 11:05 a.m. Right-hander Trace Bright (0-3, 2.93 ERA) will start for Bowie, facing Binghamton’s right-hander Brandon Sproat, who will be making his Double-A debut.

Following this series, the Baysox will return home to start a new series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, on Tuesday, May 21, with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch.
