Junior Trevor Smith from Colonial Beach has been named to the 2024 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region 4 Second Team, announced Tuesday morning (May 28). This selection marks Smith’s first career postseason accolade.
Smith, a 5-11 third baseman, is the latest player from St. Mary’s College to receive all-region honors, joining three other Seahawks who have achieved similar recognition. Cole Tarleton ’25 was named to the D3baseball.com All-Region 4 Third Team in 2022, Sam Beatty ’14 earned a spot on the 2014 ABCA All-South Region Third Team, and Steve Oursler ’01 became the first Seahawk to earn all-region honors in 1999.

In his junior season, Smith ranked 20th in Division III with a conference-best average of 0.47 doubles per game. He concluded the 2024 season on a 17-game streak of reaching base and a 10-game hitting streak. Smith was tied for third in the United East Conference with team-leading stats in slugging percentage (.635) and doubles (15). He also ranked sixth in the league with a team-high on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) of 1.099.
Smith’s contributions to the team were significant, leading St. Mary’s College with a .464 on-base percentage, 30 RBIs, 14 multiple-hit games, nine multiple-RBI games, and four home runs. He also ranked second on the team with a .375 batting average, 66 total bases, 39 hits, and 14 walks, and was third in at-bats (104) and stolen bases (4).
Smith achieved several personal milestones during the season, including career-bests of four hits and three runs scored in a game against Penn State Abington on May 4. He matched career-highs of five assists and two doubles in a game versus Lancaster Bible College on May 6. Additionally, he recorded a personal-best of five RBIs against Penn College on April 19 and a season-best three putouts at Salisbury University on April 24. Smith also achieved a career-best of two stolen bases at Lancaster Bible on March 30 and hit his first career home run against the same team on March 29.
St. Mary’s College concluded the 2024 season with an overall record of 12-20 and a 7-8 mark in the United East Conference (UEC), marking the Seahawks’ third consecutive season with double-digit wins. As the fourth seed in the conference tournament, the Seahawks advanced to the Volt Division final after overcoming an initial 10-6 loss to No. 1 seed Penn State Harrisburg. St. Mary’s College then eliminated No. 2 seed Penn State Abington with a 17-10 victory and No. 3 seed Lancaster Bible with a 14-2 win before ultimately falling to Harrisburg, 10-2, in the divisional final.
