For the second season in a row, St. Mary’s College of Maryland has captured the United East President’s Cup, defeating Harrisburg by 0.75 points in the men’s division and 1.00 points in the women’s division.
The Seahawks finished as the runner-up in the 2021-22 season, when they lost to Penn State Harrisburg by 0.75 points in the men’s division and 1.00 points in the women’s division. This year, they made up for it by holding on to No. 1 in the Presidents’ Cup standings for the entire year, remaining in the top spot after the completion of each season.
“What a monumental achievement for the Seahawk athletics department and St. Mary’s College of Maryland to be awarded the United East President’s Cup for the second consecutive year,” said SMCM Director of Athletics & Recreation Crystal Gibson. “How we got here is not only with the tremendous work of our incredibly dedicated coaching staff, support staff and relentless efforts and selflessness of our student-athletes, but also due to unwavering support throughout the campus community.”
The 2023-24 season marked the first time the United East President’s Cup and the Colonial States Athletic Conference merged. St. Mary’s College was one of eight founding members of the new conference.
“Our student-athletes continue to set the standard in the classroom, the competition field, and with their work throughout the inner and outward community,” Gibson said. “This honor is a culmination of all these efforts and support, and we couldn’t be more grateful to represent the United East at its highest level.”
