PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR STATION, MD – Residents near NAS Patuxent River should prepare for increased noise levels due to scheduled testing events from now until July 9, 2024. The testing will occur daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The noise increase is a result of Field Carrier Landing Practices (FCLPs) conducted by NAS PAX pilots. FCLPs are crucial training exercises that simulate the challenging conditions of landing on an aircraft carrier. These maneuvers, known as “bounces,” involve a series of touch-and-go landings that are meticulously choreographed in terms of airspeed, altitude, and power. This training ensures that pilots can safely and accurately approach and land on a carrier deck.

Landing on an aircraft carrier is considered one of the most demanding tasks in military aviation. It requires a high level of precision and is a skill that must be continuously practiced to maintain proficiency. The intensive training period prior to deployment is critical for the safety of the pilots and the success of their missions.

To mitigate the impact of these noise-generating activities on the surrounding communities, NAS Patuxent River has implemented several precautionary measures. However, some noise disruption is unavoidable.
