AKRON, OH. — In a thrilling minor league baseball showdown at Canal Park, the Bowie Baysox overcame the Akron RubberDucks 4-2 on Wednesday night. Bowie’s Dylan Beavers shone brightly, marking his first multi-homer game, which propelled his team to victory.

The game started with an early lead for Akron after Alexfri Planez hit a solo homer in the first inning. However, Beavers quickly turned the tables in the third inning, blasting a two-run homer against RubberDucks’ starter Tommy Mace, edging Bowie ahead 2-1. Beavers wasn’t done yet; he hammered a second solo home run in the fifth inning, extending the lead to 3-1.

Despite an initial setback, Bowie’s starting pitcher Seth Johnson found his rhythm, contributing four solid innings. He surrendered just three hits and one walk while striking out two batters, leaving the game without a decision but with a reduced ERA of 2.63.

Anthony Servideo, returning from a short stint in Triple-A Norfolk, added to the Baysox’s tally with a solo home run in the sixth, marking his fifth of the season and increasing Bowie’s lead to three.

Relief pitchers Houston Roth and Levi Stoudt maintained the lead, each throwing two innings and striking out three batters. However, the ninth inning saw some drama as Keagan Gillies, despite issuing two walks, managed to secure his fifth save of the season after Milan Tolentino was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double for the game’s final out.

This victory, highlighted by a total of six hits—all for extra bases—adds to Bowie’s momentum, having secured 13 extra base hits in the first two games of the series against Akron.

The Baysox will look to continue their success in the series as they face the RubberDucks again tomorrow at 6:35 pm. Peter Van Loon is scheduled to pitch for Bowie against Akron’s Austin Peterson.

Looking ahead, Bowie is set to return home for a series against the Somerset Patriots starting July 30. The homestand features several promotions including Military Appreciation Night, Summer Camp Day, a live happy hour, the annual Navy Night, the Baytober Craft Beer Fest, and a Gunnar Henderson Bobblehead Giveaway, ensuring fans have plenty to enjoy beyond the action on the field
