LEONARDTOWN, MD — The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) advanced significant infrastructure projects at their latest meeting, approving amendments to the county’s comprehensive water and sewerage plan and endorsing several key agreements aimed at improving local services and accessibility.
The meeting opened with the customary invocation and pledge of allegiance, followed by the swift approval of the consent agenda. The Commissioners then transitioned to a presentation by Russell Strickland, the Maryland Secretary of Emergency Management, marking the beginning of his visit to the area.
A major focus of the session was the approval of the proposed amendment to the St. Mary’s County Comprehensive Water and Sewerage Plan. This amendment is pivotal for guiding future development and ensuring sustainable management of the county’s water resources.
During the County Administrator Time, the Commissioners tackled a variety of agenda items. They reviewed upcoming meeting schedules and approved a Capital Projects Grant Agreement. This agreement allocates legislative bond funds for an accessible water taxi at St. Clements Island, enhancing transportation options for residents and visitors with disabilities.
Furthermore, an Amended Railroad Right-of-Way Easement Agreement was approved between the Commissioners and the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad. This agreement is critical for supporting emergency services and improving response times throughout the county.
The session concluded with Commissioner Time, where members of the board discussed various community issues and upcoming projects. It was also announced that the CSMC will break for a two-week period, with no meetings scheduled for August 6 or August 13. The next business meeting will reconvene on Tuesday, August 20, at 9 a.m. in the Chesapeake Building.
Decisions and related documentation from the CSMC meetings are available on the county’s BoardDocs website. Meetings are open to the public, broadcast live on TV Channel 95, and streamed on-demand at www.YouTube.com/@StMarysCoGov. Additional information can be found at stmaryscountymd.gov.
