In a nostalgic nod to five decades of fantasy and adventure, the U.S. Postal Service unveiled a new series of stamps commemorating the 50th anniversary of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS at Gen Con Indy 2024. This special edition, consisting of 20 stamps, showcases iconic characters and creatures from the beloved tabletop game.
The stamp reveal, which took place at the world’s largest tabletop gaming convention, was marked by a video announcement from USPS Senior Vice President of Finance and Strategy, Luke Grossmann. “It seems fitting that these D&D stamps will soon travel the world. We hope you will find them a worthy tribute to DUNGEONS & DRAGONS’ lore, and that they add a fantastical element to your cards, letters, and other mailings,” Grossmann expressed.

Lisa Bobb-Semple, USPS director of stamp services, highlighted the cultural significance of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS in transforming tabletop gaming. “The Postal Service timed the release of the stamp with the game’s 50th anniversary and we hope fans see them as a welcome sign that this deeply cherished game can be appreciated by the masses on stamps,” she said.
At the convention, the stamps were unveiled by key figures including Greg Breeding, the art director for USPS who designed the stamps, along with Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford, the creative and game directors for DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, respectively. Josh Herman, head of art at DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, also participated, with the group signing autographs and engaging with fans.
The stamps feature ten different designs that resonate with the game’s expansive lore:
- A bronze dragon and a blue plesiosaur.
- The infamous five-headed Tiamat.
- A lone figure trapped in a maze.
- A wizard casting a magic missile spell.
- The archlich Acererak with his undead army.
- Drizzt Do’Urden, the heroic drow ranger.
- A warrior battling a massive red dragon.
- A character handling toxic green dragon’s blood.
- A death knight on a nightmare horse.
- A purple worm emerging from the earth.
The pane’s selvage includes a detailed illustration of adventurers confronting a green dragon, originally featured on the D&D Starter Set box cover, and a gold 20-sided die positioned above the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS logo.
Forever stamps, as these are issued, will always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price, ensuring their utility for postage no matter future rate changes. The release has been promoted under the hashtag #DandDStamps, inviting enthusiasts to celebrate the game’s storied past and bright future.
