In Thursday night’s clash at Prince George’s Stadium, the Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, succumbed to a 6-2 defeat against the Somerset Patriots, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. This matchup saw both teams locked in a tight contest until the later innings when Somerset pulled away decisively.

The game commenced aggressively with Somerset taking an early lead. Tyler Hardman, with an RBI double off Bowie’s starter Alex Pham, marked the scoreboard just two batters into the game. Despite this initial setback, Pham, the Orioles’ No. 20 prospect, found his rhythm and pitched five solid innings, allowing just one run and four hits, and tallying two strikeouts.
Bowie evened the score in the fourth inning thanks to Silas Ardoin’s RBI single, driving Frederick Bencosme home, who had an outstanding night reaching base four times and extending his hitting streak to eight games. However, the balance shifted in the seventh inning as Somerset capitalized on Bowie’s defensive errors, pushing four runs across the plate. A crucial moment was a fielding mistake by third baseman Ryan Higgins, leading to a pivotal go-ahead run from Anthony Seigler. Rafael Flores then widened the gap with a three-run homer, marking his second consecutive game with a home run.
The Baysox managed to narrow the margin in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly from TT Bowens, who leads the team with 52 RBIs. Nonetheless, Somerset sealed their victory by adding another run in the ninth inning through Elijah Dunham’s sacrifice fly.
Somerset’s starter Zach Messinger earned the win with an impressive season-high seven innings pitched, conceding only one run. Looking ahead, the Baysox aim to rebound in the continuing series, with Cameron Weston slated to pitch against Somerset’s Chase Hampton on Friday night.
The series also features special events, including the 25th Annual Navy Night on Friday, with postgame fireworks and the United States Naval Academy Class of 2028 in attendance. The weekend continues with the Baytober Craft Beer Fest on Saturday and concludes with Sunday’s Area 51 Day and a Gunnar Henderson Bobblehead Giveaway.
