LA PLATA, MD — On Friday, a Charles County jury convicted 25-year-old Jeremiah Terrell Bryant of armed robbery and several related charges following a five-day trial, according to Tony Covington, State’s Attorney for Charles County.

The conviction stems from an incident on January 9, 2024, when Bryant allegedly robbed the Sunoco Gas Mart in Waldorf. An employee reported that Bryant threatened him with a semi-automatic handgun, stealing cash from the register and the employee’s cell phone. During the robbery, Bryant demanded that the cashier fill a brown plastic shopping bag with money. Although Bryant escaped with $494 and the cell phone, he inadvertently left behind the plastic bag.

Charles County Sheriff’s Office detectives, responding to the scene, gathered crucial evidence including surveillance footage that showed Bryant arriving and departing in a Mitsubishi Outlander with a noticeable broken passenger side mirror. The vehicle was later found parked outside Bryant’s mother’s residence.

Further investigation linked Bryant to the crime through fingerprints found on the plastic bag left at the crime scene. Additionally, cell site analysis of Bryant’s phone corroborated his presence at the location during the robbery.

Bryant was found guilty of multiple charges, including armed robbery, two counts of using a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, robbery, first-degree assault, theft, possession of a regulated firearm, transporting a handgun on person and in a vehicle, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery and robbery.

A sentencing hearing for Bryant is scheduled for September 26, 2024. He faces a maximum sentence of 78 years in prison.
