In a significant operation on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Warrant/Fugitive Unit successfully captured 32-year-old Dimitri Carswell, a highly sought-after fugitive from Washington, D.C. Carswell was apprehended at a residence in Prince Frederick, Maryland, shortly before 11 a.m., without any confrontation.
Sheriff Ricky Cox praised the operation, emphasizing the importance of community safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement collaboration. “The safety of our community is our top priority, and this arrest is a testament to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in bringing wanted individuals to justice,” Cox stated.
Carswell, who was wanted on multiple warrants issued by neighboring Prince George’s County, is linked to two armed robberies and two armed carjackings, among other charges. These warrants reflect his alleged involvement in a series of violent crimes that had put the local communities on high alert.
Following his arrest, Carswell was transported back to Prince George’s County where he will face the charges outlined in the warrants. This transfer marks the next step in the legal process, where Carswell will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations against him.
The swift apprehension of Carswell underscores the efficiency and dedication of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Unit. Their ability to act on timely information and coordinate with other jurisdictions played a critical role in capturing Carswell without any risk to public safety or the officers involved.
