In the wake of recent inclement weather, Chesapeake Beach Public Works has initiated cleanup operations at Bayfront Park. The natural beach, home to endangered species, has faced significant disturbances due to storms and tidal activity, necessitating a careful approach to restoration efforts.

The park, known for its pristine natural environment, encountered debris accumulation and sand displacement, prompting immediate attention from local public works staff. To minimize environmental impact, the cleanup process is being conducted with special consideration for the native vegetation and wildlife, particularly in forested areas where downed trees have been reported.

Officials have issued a warning regarding hazardous conditions persisting in the southern region of the park, beyond areas marked with “do not enter cliff area” signs. Visitors are urged to exercise caution due to potential dangers such as debris, sharp objects, and splinters from fallen trees, which are common on the beach following such weather events.

One of the significant challenges faced by the cleanup crew is the creek and bridge area, which is now completely filled with sand. Public works personnel are manually shoveling to clear the bridge, a task that underscores the extent of the sand displacement caused by the storm.

The public works department anticipates that additional downed trees and logs may continue to wash ashore in the coming days. These will be removed as needed to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the beach environment.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any issues or concerns to the Town Hall by calling (410) 257-2230 or via email at info@chesapeakebeachmd.gov. Public participation is crucial in maintaining the safety and natural beauty of Bayfront Park during this recovery period.
