Maryland State Police have arrested 34-year-old Kenneth J. Schneider of Chestnut Hill Cove on charges related to child pornography following a comprehensive investigation by the Maryland State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Schneider faces multiple felony charges, including solicitation and distribution of child pornography, as well as a misdemeanor charge for displaying obscene material to a minor.
The arrest occurred on August 9, 2024, at Schneider’s residence during a coordinated operation involving the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Homeland Security Investigations, and Anne Arundel County Police. This action followed an investigation that began in June when Homeland Security agents were alerted to a case of a minor who had attempted suicide due to being sexually extorted.
Schneider is currently being held without bond at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center as the investigation continues. The task force’s efforts are part of a statewide initiative to combat internet-facilitated crimes against children, supported by both state and federal funding, including grants from the Governor’s Office for Crime Prevention and Policy and the U.S. Department of Justice.
The Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is a collaborative law enforcement effort that brings together various police departments throughout Maryland. The unit focuses on identifying and apprehending individuals involved in child exploitation and related offenses, leveraging technology and interagency cooperation to protect children from online predators.
