At approximately 7:01 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2024, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a distress call concerning a severe single-vehicle accident along Route 5 near Oak Station Drive in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. The incident involved a 2021 Nissan Armada, which deputies found extensively damaged and overturned in the median upon their arrival.
Tragically, the vehicle’s sole occupant, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been disclosed as authorities are in the process of notifying his family.
Initial investigations by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit point to speed and alcohol as potential contributing factors to the devastating crash. The Reconstruction Unit has taken over the inquiry to further analyze the circumstances of the accident.
