Nick Porovne, a recognized figure in the local soccer scene, has been appointed interim head coach for the men’s soccer team at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM). Porovne, currently the associate head coach for CSM’s women’s team, takes over the men’s team with a rich history of coaching achievements and a deep comprehension of the sport.

Porovne’s journey in soccer coaching is diverse and marked by significant success. He initially joined CSM to coach the women’s soccer team, serving as both an assistant and briefly as the interim head coach from November 2021 to April 2022. His effective management during this period earned him a promotion to associate head coach for the women’s team.

Last season, Porovne developed strong connections with the team members, concluding his stint as an assistant coach in August 2023. His notable influence on the team’s dynamics is anticipated to enhance his strategies as the new interim head coach.

Additionally, Porovne holds significant positions outside CSM. He has been the Director of Coaching at Waldorf Soccer Club since June 2022, and previously served as the Junior Academy Director. His role at FC Charles 1658 as the Travel Age Group Director and Travel Head Coach further emphasizes his commitment to player development at various stages.

Currently pursuing his C License through the U.S. Soccer Federation, already equipped with a D License, Porovne is continuously seeking to advance his coaching skills.

With the new season ahead, Porovne is focused on steering the men’s team towards substantial achievements. His extensive coaching background and clear vision for the team’s future suggest a promising turn under his leadership. The CSM community, along with the players and fans, is keen to observe how his strategic approach will influence the team.

Discussing his objectives for the season, Coach Porovne remarked, “The goal for this season is to make the playoffs. This team has more talent than was shown in the first two games, and I believe we can turn this season around and make it a successful campaign.”
