In a challenging conclusion to the Seahawk Classic, St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s soccer team faced off against Dickinson College on Sunday afternoon, resulting in a 3-0 loss. The defeat at the hands of the undefeated Red Devils (4-0-0) left the Seahawks with a record of 1-2-1 for the season.
From the opening whistle, St. Mary’s demonstrated aggressive play, quickly testing Dickinson’s goalkeeper Aidan George with a series of shots and corner kicks. Despite their efforts, it was Dickinson’s Nicholas Dwamena who first found the net from just inside the midfield line at the 30-minute mark, giving the Red Devils a 1-0 lead.

The situation worsened for the Seahawks just before the first half concluded. At the 41st minute, Dickinson’s Timi Omoniwa capitalized on a loose ball near the post to double their advantage.
Entering the second half with determination, St. Mary’s managed to put pressure on George, firing four shots within the first 10 minutes, two of which were on target. However, Dickinson extended their lead further when Saul Iwowo assisted Luke Beiles in scoring his second goal of the season at 63:45, bringing the score to 3-0.
Despite a spirited performance and having the edge in shots, 11-10, and corner kicks, 10-6, St. Mary’s was unable to breach the defense effectively managed by George and his substitute, Gavin Marr, in the closing stages of the match.
Highlighting individual performances, sophomore midfielder Braden Kindred and sophomore forward Franco Reyes were notable for St. Mary’s, with Kindred taking four shots and Reyes contributing three. On the defensive side, sophomore Zack Reed made two saves in his season debut.
For Dickinson, goalkeeper George made four saves during his 69:28 minutes on the field, while Marr completed the shutout with one save in the final 20:32.
Looking ahead, St. Mary’s faces a rigorous schedule, with an upcoming match against No. 24 Johns Hopkins in Baltimore on September 11, followed by a contest at Bridgewater in Virginia on September 14.
