PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on September 12, 2024, in Prince Frederick, Maryland.
Travis Gregory Pope, 36, of Prince Frederick, was named as the deceased individual in an update released by the sheriff’s office. Pope was struck by a vehicle while crossing Solomons Island Road near Church Street.
According to the initial report, the incident took place at approximately 8:04 p.m. when members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to a call about a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the area of northbound Solomons Island Road and Church Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Hyundai Accent, driven by Asaun Jaziah Hudson, 23, of St. Leonard, was traveling north on Solomons Island Road as it approached Church Street. At the same time, Pope was walking eastbound across Route 4 from Hallowing Point Road to Church Street.
The Hyundai Accent struck Pope, causing serious injuries. Emergency responders transported him to Calvert Health Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Hudson, the driver of the Hyundai, did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Initial findings from the investigation suggest that speed was not a factor in the collision. However, authorities noted that alcohol appears to be a contributing factor with the pedestrian.
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. They are appealing to the public for any additional information that may assist in their inquiry.
