Waldorf, Md. — A shooting in Waldorf on the afternoon of September 16 has left one man dead and two suspects in custody, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Officers responded to the scene in the 11600 block of Lewisham Place following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived at 1:18 p.m., they found an adult male, later identified as 44-year-old Antione Jerome Whitaker from Washington, D.C., suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by Fire/EMS personnel to administer first aid, Whitaker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspects were spotted fleeing the area in a U-Haul truck, prompting officers to pursue the vehicle. Despite officers’ efforts to pull the truck over, the driver refused to stop. Officers ultimately deployed stop sticks, bringing the truck to a halt in the vicinity of Crain Highway and Plaza Drive. The two suspects were apprehended without further incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fatal shooting resulted from a dispute between the two suspects and Whitaker. The details of the dispute remain unclear, but it escalated to the point where shots were fired, leaving Whitaker fatally wounded. The Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office was consulted following the incident, and both suspects, 22-year-old Anton Jermaine Wood and 50-year-old Rayvon Kojak Gordon, were charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses.

Wood and Gordon are currently being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. Detective Worley is leading the investigation and can be reached at 301-609-6518.
