This morning, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to a report of a student at Chopticon High School claiming to have a firearm. The student allegedly made the comment to another peer, prompting school and law enforcement officials to take immediate action.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and coordinated with school administrators and the Board of Education’s Safety and Security team to assess the situation. The student in question was located and promptly searched. Authorities then conducted a thorough search of the school premises as part of the investigation.

Following the search, deputies reported that no firearm or other weapons were found on the student or anywhere within the school. While no weapons were discovered, the student who made the firearm statement will face criminal charges. The exact nature of these charges has not yet been disclosed.
