The Town of La Plata and the Charles County community are mourning the loss of Jeff Garner, President of the Charles County Volunteer Rescue Squad and Director of Public Works for the Town of La Plata. Garner, a dedicated public servant and leader, will be honored with a funeral service next week. His contributions to public safety and municipal service have left a lasting impact on the region.

Garner’s funeral services will be held in La Plata, with multiple opportunities for friends, family, and colleagues to pay their respects.

Visitation

Visitation will take place on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department, located at 911 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland. Guests are invited to attend during one of two scheduled times: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM or 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. At 7:00 PM, a Fireman’s Prayer will be offered in remembrance of Garner’s service to the community.

Memorial Service

The memorial service for Jeff Garner will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The service will also take place at the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department, where attendees will gather to honor his life and legacy of service.

Procession and Interment

Following the memorial service, a funeral procession will lead from the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department to Trinity Memorial Gardens. Located at 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Road in Waldorf, Maryland, the cemetery will be the site of Garner’s interment, which is scheduled for 1:00 PM.

Repass

A repass will follow the interment, beginning at 2:00 PM at the Charles County Volunteer Rescue Squad, located at 2 Calvert Street, La Plata, Maryland. This gathering will offer a time for those who knew Jeff Garner to share stories and memories in his honor.

Participation by Local Departments

Any fire or rescue departments wishing to bring apparatus for the funeral procession or to provide intersection coverage are encouraged to contact Fire Chief Doug Hutchins at 240-299-3701 to coordinate their participation.
