HARRISONBURG, VA — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Volleyball team (8-6) traveled to Harrisonburg, Virginia, for a tri-match on Saturday, where they earned a split result. The Seahawks secured a 3-1 victory against Randolph College (9-7) in the first game but fell 3-0 to Eastern Mennonite University (6-8) in the second.

Game One: St. Mary’s Defeats Randolph 3-1

Set 1: St. Mary’s 25, Randolph 23
The Seahawks began the day with a hard-fought win over Randolph. The first set saw a competitive exchange of points, with St. Mary’s pulling ahead after two consecutive kills by Grace Gilmore and Maya Mauro, giving the Seahawks a 20-15 advantage. The Wildcats mounted a comeback, narrowing the score to 23-22, but a decisive kill by Gilmore sealed the set for St. Mary’s, 25-23.

Set 2: Randolph 25, St. Mary’s 21
The second set followed a similar back-and-forth pattern. Randolph took control late, securing a 22-18 lead. Although St. Mary’s closed the gap to 22-21, the Wildcats held on and claimed the set 25-21.

Set 3: St. Mary’s 25, Randolph 13
St. Mary’s responded decisively in the third set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead and dominating throughout. The Seahawks capitalized on multiple Randolph errors, building a 12-point lead. Contributions from Julia Bobrowski, Mauro, and Gilmore helped the Seahawks take the set comfortably, 25-13.

Set 4: St. Mary’s 25, Randolph 19
In the fourth set, a six-point service run by Stella Marrero gave St. Mary’s a commanding 13-2 lead. Marrero notched three service aces during this run. Though Randolph made a late push, closing the gap to 19-17, the Seahawks held on, with Maggie Mohler recording the final two points to secure the 25-19 set win and a 3-1 match victory.

Game Two: Eastern Mennonite Defeats St. Mary’s 3-0

Set 1: Eastern Mennonite 25, St. Mary’s 23
St. Mary’s faced Eastern Mennonite in the second match of the day. The Seahawks built a 21-17 lead in the first set, but the Royals mounted a comeback, scoring six consecutive points to take a 23-21 lead. Despite St. Mary’s efforts, Eastern Mennonite held on to win the set 25-23.

Set 2: Eastern Mennonite 25, St. Mary’s 12
The Royals carried their momentum into the second set, establishing control early. St. Mary’s struggled to keep pace, and Eastern Mennonite cruised to a 25-12 victory, dominating the set from start to finish.

Set 3: Eastern Mennonite 25, St. Mary’s 18
The Seahawks started strong in the third set, jumping out to an 8-3 lead. However, Eastern Mennonite battled back, and both teams traded points through the middle of the set. St. Mary’s held a 20-18 lead late, but the Royals found their rhythm and closed the match with a seven-point run to take the set 25-18, sweeping the Seahawks 3-0.
