The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is once again asking for the public’s assistance in locating Daniel Lewis Edwards, one year after his disappearance. Edwards, a 56-year-old man from California, Maryland, was last seen on October 20, 2023, and law enforcement continues to investigate suspicious circumstances surrounding his case.

On the day of his disappearance, Edwards had reportedly left a job site in the Town Creek neighborhood, located in the California area of St. Mary’s County, but he has not been seen or heard from since. His family contacted authorities when they were unable to reach him, prompting a search that has so far yielded little information.

In an effort to generate new leads, the Sheriff’s Office is renewing its request for public help. The case remains open, and investigators are hopeful that someone with potentially vital information will come forward to assist in solving this mystery.

Suspicious Circumstances Surround Edwards’ Disappearance

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division have been actively working on Edwards’ case since the initial missing person report. Although they have not disclosed specific details regarding the suspicious circumstances, the department has maintained that they do not consider the case to be a routine disappearance.

“At this time, we are looking for any information that could help us understand what happened to Mr. Edwards,” the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office stated in their renewed call for tips. Authorities continue to search for clues that may explain his sudden disappearance or lead to his whereabouts.

Edwards is described as a white male, standing 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing around 170 pounds. He was born in September 1967, making him 56 years old at the time of this renewed investigation. His physical appearance has remained consistent with this description, and anyone who may have seen him or recalls any interactions around the time of his disappearance is urged to speak up.

Sheriff’s Office Offers Multiple Ways to Submit Tips

In their ongoing effort to locate Edwards, the Sheriff’s Office has provided several avenues for the public to share tips. Detective Taylore Nauman is handling the case, and individuals with information are encouraged to contact her directly. She can be reached by phone at 301-475-4200, extension 8109, or via email at Taylore.Nauman@stmaryscountymd.gov.

Additionally, the department has partnered with Crime Solvers, a service that offers anonymity to those submitting tips. Crime Solvers can be reached 24/7 at 301-475-3333, or tipsters can send a text message to 274637. When texting, individuals must type “Tip239” in the message block, as it is case-sensitive. After sending the tip, Crime Solvers will respond, and the individual can continue the conversation anonymously.

Crime Solvers also offers a cash reward to those whose information leads to an arrest or the resolution of the case. The service aims to encourage more people to come forward, particularly those who may have hesitated out of fear of being identified.

Family and Community Seek Closure

As the one-year anniversary of Edwards’ disappearance approaches, his family and friends are left with unanswered questions and deep concerns. The impact of his absence has been felt not only by his loved ones but also by the local community. Law enforcement hopes that this renewed appeal for information will bring new leads that could help bring the case to a close.

While tips have trickled in over the past year, they have not led to any major breakthroughs. Investigators remain hopeful, however, that even a small piece of information could help them piece together the puzzle of what happened to Edwards.
