Residents in Letterkenny, Pennsylvania are advised to expect nighttime military flight operations starting on Oct. 23 and continuing through Nov. 15, 2024. These operations will take place between 6 p.m. and 4 a.m., according to officials from the Patuxent River Naval Air Station (NAS PAX) in Maryland.

The nighttime flights are part of essential training missions that play a critical role in maintaining national security. NAS PAX officials emphasized the importance of these exercises, while acknowledging the potential disturbance they may cause to local communities during the nighttime hours.

In an effort to reduce noise impact, pilots have been instructed to fly the lowest altitude portions of their missions before midnight whenever possible. However, the exact timing of the operations may vary due to the nature of the missions, and the schedule may shift without prior notice. Despite these challenges, the Navy has affirmed that all flights will adhere to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Navy safety regulations.

NAS PAX officials expressed their appreciation for the community’s understanding during these nighttime operations. “We are committed to minimizing the impact of flight operations on the local population and will continue to take every precaution possible,” the base stated.

Residents who have further concerns or questions can reach the NAS PAX noise advisory hotline at 1-866-819-9028. Additionally, those interested in more information about current noise advisories can visit the official NAS PAX noise advisory webpage at https://www.cnic.navy.mil/PaxRiverNoise.
