POMFRET, Md. – Traffic operations are currently investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Bumpy Oak Road on October 23. The crash, which involved a three-wheeled Harley Davidson motorcycle, led to the death of the rider at the scene.

At approximately 1:36 p.m., officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision in the area near Marshall Corner Road in Pomfret. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the motorcycle had left the roadway for reasons that remain unclear. The sole rider, identified as William Prater Carpenter, 77, of Bowie, Maryland, was ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency personnel at the scene pronounced Carpenter deceased shortly after the crash. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the incident. The cause of the motorcycle leaving the roadway has yet to be determined, and the circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.

Investigators are seeking additional information from any witnesses who may have seen the crash or have knowledge of what led to the vehicle leaving the road.
