LA PLATA, Md. — University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center (UM CRMC) recently expanded its surgical team, adding two experienced surgeons, Dr. Erik DeAngelis and Dr. Eleisha Flanagan, to UM Charles Regional Medical Group – Surgical Care. Specializing in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, these physicians are expected to enhance care quality and access for patients across Southern Maryland.


Dr. DeAngelis, who joins UM Charles Regional following a fellowship in Minimally Invasive General and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), brings advanced surgical training, including proficiency in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures. At UPMC, he also served as a clinical instructor in the Department of Surgery, honing his skills in a setting known for medical innovation and excellence. Prior to his fellowship, he completed his general surgery residency at George Washington University, where his dedication and performance earned him several awards, including the prestigious Resident of the Year Award in 2023. Dr. DeAngelis is board-certified in general surgery.
Dr. Flanagan, who has practiced minimally invasive surgery for over a decade, is another key addition to the UM Charles Regional team. Previously, she served as the only full-time general surgeon at Adventist Healthcare Fort Washington Medical Center, a role that allowed her to provide evidence-based surgical care to a diverse patient base. Dr. Flanagan is board-certified in general surgery and holds the title of Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), reflecting her commitment to professional excellence. Her expertise spans laparoscopic and robotic-assisted techniques, with an emphasis on patient-centered, personalized care.
