Indian Head, MD-A fatal car collision in Indian Head, Maryland, is under investigation after an elderly man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Bicknell Road on Tuesday. Officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at the 5900 block of Bicknell Road at approximately 4:32 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving a single vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the driver, identified as James Stewart, 77, of La Plata, had suffered fatal injuries and was found deceased inside his vehicle. According to the sheriff’s department’s preliminary findings, Stewart was traveling along Bicknell Road when his vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a telephone pole. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle and left Stewart unresponsive.

Authorities have not yet released information on potential contributing factors to the crash, such as speed, weather conditions, or medical emergencies. The cause of the collision remains unknown, and the department’s Traffic Operations Unit is actively investigating.
