LA PLATA, Md. — A 48-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his teenage stepson early Monday morning in La Plata, according to authorities.

Darshan Eric Williams was taken into custody without incident after officers responded to a reported shooting in the 6400 block of Huntt Road at 12:11 a.m. Police say the caller reported that Williams had shot his 15-year-old stepson, Michael Edward Clemons.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Williams outside the residence and detained him immediately. Inside the home, officers discovered Clemons unconscious and not breathing. Officers initiated CPR until medics arrived, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest the shooting stemmed from an argument over household chores that the victim had not completed. Authorities have charged Williams with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and related offenses. He is currently being held at the Charles County Detention Center awaiting a hearing before a district court commissioner.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation. Detective Burgess is leading the case and has urged anyone with additional information to contact him at 301-609-6494.

The tragic incident has shocked the community, leaving many grappling with the senseless loss of a young life.
